Stephanie Austwick

Background

Having graduated from Bath College of Higher Education with a degree in English and Drama, Stephanie spent 20 years teaching in Herefordshire Primary Schools, working with all ages from YR to Y6, Y7 and beyond. 

In 2000, Stephanie was appointed as Literacy Consultant for Herefordshire, a position she enjoyed for 9 years, gaining valuable experience and subject knowledge, while always maintaining a ‘hands on’ approach in the classroom. During this time, apart from writing and delivering CPD for teachers and providing school-based support, monitoring and evaluation, Stephanie also initiated a number of exciting projects across the county, including those centred around film-making, visual literacy, transition between Y2/3 and Y6/7, 'Drama into Writing', 'Experiential Writing' and 'Poetry in Motion'.

 

In 2009 Stephanie took up the position of Regional Adviser for the National Literacy Strategy, which gave her the opportunity to spread her wings and build up a more informed picture of Literacy teaching across the country.

 

Stephanie now works as an Independent Literacy Consultant, a writer and a director of the Professional Literacy Company. She has become well-known for her inspirational, practical courses and her innovative approach to the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening and drama.

She regulary travels the length and breadth of England and Wales to deliver training and school support and has recently worked in Abu Dhabi and Europe.


As a writer, Stephanie has contributed to a number of resources including Read it Talk it Write it, Read to Write and OUP's Big Writing Adventures.
